European Parliament Trainee

"I wanted to gain experience within an international organisation and experience within an EU institution is an ideal way to achieve this." Torlach Grant, European Parliament Trainee

I studied for a BA in Contemporary Culture and Society at Dublin City University. Following this, I completed an MSc in International Politics at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2014.

While at university I developed a strong interest in international trade and development. I am particularly interested in how various citizens, organisations and interest groups interact within the European policy-making process.

After graduating, I joined European Movement Ireland as a Research Stagiaire and upon completion of my internship I was offered the role of Projects Executive Assistant. Reporting to the Head of Communications and Development, I worked on the organisation’s various advocacy projects and communications campaigns, as well as members’ and other events.

In October, I will begin a traineeship in the Directorate-General for Parliamentary Research Services at the European Parliament in Brussels. I will be working in the European Council Oversight Unit. I decided to apply for a traineeship at the Parliament because I wanted to gain experience within an international organisation and experience within an EU institution is an ideal way to achieve this.

I hope to make use of the traineeship to further develop my skills in policy research and analysis and to broaden my knowledge of how European policy processes work.
