Building Engineers are responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of all the services required in any kind of building, from a home to an office block, a cinema to an airport.  There are two main aspects of building engineering: mechanical and electrical. Mechanical covers things such as air conditioning systems, ventilation and heating; electrical is concerned with aspects such as power, lighting, fire alarms and security.

What type of person would make a good Building Engineer?

A good building engineer is someone who is mathematically and technically minded with excellent problem solving ability.  They should have strong communication skills, can work well as part of a team and will be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

OK, so how do I become a Building Engineer?

It will be necessary to have a degree in Engineering, ideally specialising in Building Engineering.  TU Dublin have a specific degree in Building Engineering.
