The aim of the course is to introduce the study of literature and culture in an Irish context. The course further aims to equip learners with knowledge, skill, and competence to critically approach artistic and literary production in Ireland. Learners will explore texts and artefacts from a range of perspectives to understand how cultural identify is both shaped and perceived.
In addition to gaining an excellent grounding in Anglo-Irish Literature and Irish culture, learners will also study History and Psychology to better frame their understanding of literature and cultural developments in an Irish context. The course also offers learners the opportunity to develop their creative writing and a range of practical skills in a friendly and supportive environment led by highly experienced teachers.

This one-year course provides an extensive introduction to a wide range creative writing, media, literature, and culture.
Participants will produce writing for fiction, scripts for theatre, television, radio, and film, as well as for journalism. Students will be introduced to a wide range of literature appropriate to all modules on offer, and there are numerous opportunities to attend theatre productions, films, media events, and other cultural events throughout the year.
On completion, each student will have an exciting portfolio, a selection of which will be professionally published in the end of year publication.

AU930 - Writing and Literature – ATU Sligo
This full-time undergraduate degree programme in Writing and Literature is delivered fully online, facilitating wider access to this creative programme. All lectures will be delivered live online, and students will be able to fully participate in group work and project work by means of innovative online supports. There is no requirement to attend campus.
This innovative new programme focuses on developing writing skills over the course of three years. The students embark upon a range of writing covering fiction, nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, flash fiction, cultural journalism, and other forms of writing.
