Still time to apply to SUSI to help fund your studies for 2024/25

The SUSI online application system for 2024/25 NEW applicants is still open.

SUSI will provide funding in some way for most courses in the CAO system, for PLC courses as well as many NI, UK and European courses.  Generally, private college courses are not eligible for SUSI.

Student grants are divided into:

  1. Maintenance grants
  2. Fee grants

Maintenance Grants

Maintenance grants help students with their living costs and are paid directly to the student’s bank account.

Fee Grants

Fee grants pay tuition fees for students who do not qualify for the Free Fees Scheme. Fee grants can also pay the Student Contribution and the cost of essential field trips.

Student grants are available for students looking to study at PLC, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Means Tested

SUSI grants are means tested.  On the SUSI website, there is a very easy-to-use Eligibility Reckoner which will quickly tell you whether or not you are eligible.  The key elements to consider are-

  • Are you an Irish, EU, EAA, British or Swiss citizen who has been resident for 3 of the last 5 years?
  • Do you intend studying an approved course (Level 5 or above) for the first time?
  • Is your Household Income (Parent(s)/Guardian(s) + your own) lower than the relevant SUSI limit for your family

SUSI will continue to accept applications for student funding after 11 July 2024 however these applications will not receive priority assessment.

As a high number of applications are expected over the summer months, you are advised to apply before 11 July 2024 to avail of priority assessment

SUSI aims to have as many grant application decisions as possible with students before the start of the new academic year. The sooner they receive your application, the sooner you will receive an outcome.
