Flexible study options with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland

With the new academic year looming many are considering the options available to them for study outside of the CAO or to support their professional development if considering returning to study. The SCSI as the leading professional body for property, land and construction surveyors nationwide, accredit over 25 programmes nationwide including part-time study options for individuals looking to gain professional experience while simultaneously studying at third level from level 6 courses right through to the new level 9 Advanced Quantity Surveyor Apprenticeship at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS). Surveying is not a single career, but a collective name for a group of careers within property, construction and land. Surveying careers are surprisingly varied and include quantity surveying, estate agency, valuation and investment, project management, property and facilities management, planning and development, geospatial surveying and mapping.

Prospective students considering entry into the property sector would be well placed to consider the part-time online property programmes delivered by Atlantic Technological University Sligo (ATU) in collaboration with the SCSI. This suite of property programmes offers students the opportunity to work in the industry building their professional profile, gaining first hand industry experience while studying part-time, online. Students will develop a keen understanding of the marketplace and a skillset that will enable them to influence and adapt to changes in the property market as they arise. With programmes including the Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree in Property Services and Facilities Management plus an honours degree in Real Estate Development and Valuation, students can design a career in property surveying to suit their interests. This flexible study approach caters for students at all stages in their career, regardless of geographical location and backgrounds. For more information about these courses visit the part-time study section of the SCSI website.

Postgraduate students considering pursuing a career in Quantity Surveying might consider joining the first intake on the Level 9 Advanced Quantity Surveyor Apprenticeship in TUS combining structured education and training with workplace learning. This two year, apprenticeship supports individuals gaining a national postgraduate qualification while working and being eligible to commence the Chartership process towards becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. With 50% on the job learning, apprentices coming out of this programme will have a competitive edge on their peers. With ongoing demand for surveyors at all levels, this apprenticeship provides an opportunity to fast track your career without tuition fees while learning skills that are directly relevant to your role.
