After performing in school productions at Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles, Co Tipperary, Buckley began her career in 2008 as an 18 year old contestant in the BBC talent show ‘I’d Do Anything’. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2013 and pursued a successful stage career beginning with Shakespeare roles. Her breakthrough came with standout performances in television dramas and her film debut in the psychological thriller Beast
Her role in the country music drama Wild Rose (2018) earned critical acclaim, a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress, and a UK No.1 country soundtrack. She was described as ‘a powerhouse of emotion’ in her performance as Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret in for which she won Best Actress at the 2022 Olivier Awards. Buckley has won numerous awards for her role in Hamnet. Her latest film The Bride has just been released.
With a Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice, and the Actor award already in her collection, Buckley looks set to dominate the Academy Awards on March 15th.
