Hawthorn are now looking to recruit a Logistics Apprentice to join the growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to get a thorough grounding in the industry through on the job training in a busy working environment four days a week whilst attending TU Dublin one day a week for classroom training.
Their philosophy is to produce multi modal staff who are comfortable with all types of shipment, including being fully trained in customs clearance, by the time the apprenticeship has been completed.
A former apprentice has recently been awarded Young Freight Forwarder of the Year for 2025.
Job Specification:
- Day to day Export and Import Operations across Air Sea, Courier, Road shipments
- Liaison and developing good relationships with suppliers, customers and international partners
- Creation of Jobs using the Logistics software package including the completion of accounting procedures
- Booking collections and deliveries via third party transport providers
- Providing timely and accurate quotations to current and potential customers and partners
- Customs formalities for both Exports and Imports
Job Requirements:
- Natural customer service mindset with a passion to delight the customer
- Team player who is a self-starter with the ability and confidence to work on their own initiative
- Proficiency in MS Outlook and MS Office
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
Applicant must meet one of the LAA program entry criteria:
- H7/O6 or above in five leaving certificate (or equivalent) subjects. A minimum of grade O6 must be obtained in English. A minimum of grade O6 or a B2 or above in Foundation level must be obtained in mathematics.
- Holders of a QQI Level 5 or Level 6 (or equivalent) in cognate areas (e.g. business, logistics and distribution, supply chain management)
- Applicants may also be eligible to become apprentices via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Working Hours: Manday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm with day release to TU Dublin

An exciting opportunity is currently available at our Tralee office for an individual looking to start a career in logistics by combining on-the-job training with studies at the MTU Cork Campus for the QQI level 6 Higher Certificate in Logistics.
You will learn while you earn as you build a solid foundation for your future career.
Training area and job description:
- Working in the warehouse, picking, packing, despatching orders
- Goods in checking off, booking in and restocking goods.
- Loading and unloading trucks with the forklift
- Pricing different freight options for Ireland and all over Europe.
- Preparing customs paperwork for shipments outside of the EU etc
