Irish Defence Forces Updates and Latest Recruitment News - 16 June 2025

Naval Service

Ireland has 3171 kilometres of coastline and a marine area 10 times its land size, so the Irish Naval Service utilises Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to assist in carrying out its essential tasks.

These UAV systems enable the ship’s crew to obtain a bird's-eye view of any potential suspicious vessels operating within Ireland’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The Irish Navy can use UAV systems for:

- Maritime surveillance (Day and Night)

- Search and Rescue operations

- Maritime Interdiction Operations

- Fishery Protection & Inspection

- National media footage

- Marine Pollution Control

- Reconnaissance

- Port/Base security

Air Corps

The Irish Air Corps proudly awarded Military Pilot Wings to the 30th Young Officers Wings Course, celebrating the successful completion of over three years of rigorous military and flight training.
These young officers have met every challenge with determination and focus, and now stand ready as Ireland’s newest military pilots.

Congratulations to the 30th YOWC!

One of the photos selected for the booklet is from Amelia Stein's exhibition, "THE BLOODS", representing 58 portraits of the women and men of the 3rd Infantry Battalion, Stephen's Barracks in Kilkenny. The selected photo, entitled "Camogie Player" is of Private Ciara Nevin (main image).
