Monaghan Institute is one of Ireland’s leading Further Education colleges.

Programmes at MI offer excellent progression opportunities to a wide variety of degree courses at third level institutions across the country. Strategic relationships have been developed with various Universities and IT’s to allow graduates of MI to progress to their first-choice degree programme.

At MI we offer a range of courses including PLC (QQI Level 5, QQI Level 6), Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Direct Access Degrees. A variety of different learning sectors are housed in MI, including Arts, Business & Accounting, Early Learning & Care, Computing and Multimedia, Nursing & Healthcare, Animal Care & Sciences, Tourism, Sport, Hair & Beauty, Engineering and a wide variety of Pre-University Courses.

Students attending MI are entitled to apply for SUSI, BTEA and VTOS. Our course fees are low, keeping courses as accessible as possible for all learners.

Facilities

Our facilities include lecture halls, specialised training labs, extensive library facilities, numerous Mac and PC Labs, dining hall, gym, sports and social facilities, guidance and counselling services and free car parking for all students. Monaghan Institute also offers all students access to Free Internet Access and Free Wi-Fi for all campus users.

Additionally, students can easily access local student amenities including clubs, concert halls, theatres, shops, restaurants, cinema and various sporting activities.

Clubs & Societies

The Institute offers a wide range of sports, clubs and societies which cater for both the laid-back learner to the competitive crusader, encouraging all to roll up their sleeves and get involved. This activity is lead out by the Students Union who continually diversify into new areas every year.

Information Technology

Monaghan Institute also offers all students access to Free Internet Access and Free Wi-Fi for all campus users. Students have access to modern Mac and IT Labs during and outside of lectures contact time.

Students of MI are also provided with free access to Microsoft Office for their home computers/laptops/tablets to assist with the demands of assignment development. Our library and

Fees and Grants

MI try to ensure course fees remain low and as accessible as possible for all our courses. The cost of college programmes can vary from year to year and therefore it is best to check with Admissions directly for an up to date course costing.

Full-time learners may be eligible to apply for PLC maintenance grant, which is a means tested grant. You should contact your local Education and Training Board (ETB) for further details or visit www.studentfinance.ie or www.susi.ie where applications can be made online or downloaded.

Additionally, students can apply to the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) or the Back to Education Allowance Scheme (BTEA) for support with fees while attending a full-time programme at MI.

Student Supports

Monaghan Institute provides the services of a qualified Guidance Counsellor to all students to assist with education guidance, vocational guidance and personal counselling.

This service can help you with the transition from college to working life through one-to-one guidance, together with the provision of career information.

MI is located conveniently on the edge of Monaghan Town centre location, public transport available close-by. The college is approximately a ten-minute walk from Monaghan Town with

transport services to all major towns and cities in the country available.  

There are private bus services operating daily during the academic year to facilitate students travelling to Monaghan Institute from numerous local and regional areas.
