About Us

At Dunboyne College of Further Education we provide over 60 accredited courses at QQI levels 5 and 6 as well as HND and apprenticeship offerings. Whether you want to be a nurse, teacher, scientist, sports coach, web designer, accountant, teacher, beautician, artist etc. we have a course that will start you on your way. We offer practical training, giving you up to date adaptable and transferable skills.

Dunboyne College has built an excellent reputation over the past twenty years by providing education and training programmes of the highest quality. We are a rapidly expanding college ideally located to serve the Meath, Dublin and Kildare and wider areas in close proximity to three national universities of which we are the largest feeder and as well ten more around the country. This year over 400 of our students received first round offers and many at both level 8 and level 7. Our close links with these third level institution allows for close cooperation and in many case sharing of facilities and expertise.

Over 90% of those who achieve a full award with us get offers and progress to third level. Our courses are constantly being revised to ensure that they meet the needs of students in terms of personal development and job opportunities. In relation to employment our extensive work experience programme allows many students to get on the course training in their chosen vocational area and often be employed straight into that company or a similar employment on graduation.

We have a dedicated staff who are highly qualified in their fields, concerned for learner welfare and interested in seeing students’ progress. We also have links with partner colleges in the UK which give learners opportunities to complete their degree in nursing, law, sports science and many other areas if a place cannot be accessed in Ireland. Learners of all ages catered for and our track record in supporting mature applicants with the transition involved in returning to study is very strong. Our skills to advance program takes in many mature employees from many companies in this region and upskills them in essential areas in a vastly changing employment landscape. Our college has a friendly atmosphere, with relatively small class groups providing a unique learning experience.

Guidance Counselling and learner support services are available to support you in your learning to maximise future career options or progression to further studies. We also have a full disability and access service. Students can apply for Maintenance Grants and anyone in receipt of social welfare payments can avail of financial assistance through the VTOS or Return to Education programmes. Most of all our over sixty Quality Assured courses lead to nationally and internationally recognised certification.

Learner Progression
Our student’s achieve excellent results with very high progression rates to degree courses. Over 90% that achieve a full award get third level offers (If you complete at least 8 modules and pass your core modules you have an excellent chance of progressing to third level). In some areas like childcare, community care, culinary, tourism and beauty students can go directly into the workplace. Some students opt to take the opportunity of progressing to universities in the UK.
Links to Third Level
All Courses are one year fulltime and are offered at QQI level 5, in some areas we offer QQI level 6 where students can stay for 2 years (Some night classes also available). All courses have progression links to Level 6 / 7 & 8 Degree programmes in third level. There are a wide variety of career options on completion with excellent employment opportunities for students who may not want to progress to Third Level.
Transport
DCFE is served by Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead and Iarnród Éireann. We also have a number of private providers, plus some options for those driving or cycling. Facilities

College Administration Office

The college administration office is open between 9:00am and 4:00pm Monday to Friday. Students’ queries are dealt with during these hours. Documents which require the college stamp may be left in the office and will usually be ready for collection the following day.

Library

The college library is open every day from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Students need their college ID to borrow books, and can take out books for up to two weeks at a time. The library is equipped with books related to each core subject.

Coffee Shop

Open from 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday. The coffee shop operates as a private franchise and supplies soup, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and fresh sandwiches

Information Technology

We have a great range of IT Facilities at the college, computer rooms, Wi-Fi, open computer areas, a recording studio, and a learning hub. 

Moodle is a course management system that provides an effective learning platform for students to enhance communication. The system provides access to a wide variety of resources.

Dining

There is a coffee shop located within Dunboyne College. It is very welcoming and a relaxing place where students can socialise, play pool and other games, use computers and spend time between classes.

The coffee shop is open from 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday. It operates as a private franchise and supplies soup, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and fresh sandwiches. 

Fees and Grants

Fees

Payment of the full fee €200 within the specified timeframe guarantees a student a place on the course they have been offered.

This already includes all exemptions. E.g. Medical Card, SUSI grant and BTEA

No cash will be accepted at the office. Payments can be made online or by cheque (payable to Dunboyne College of Further Education), by bank draft or by postal order only.

Refunds

All students can claim a refund for their courses up to the last Friday in September in the relevant academic year. Send an email to reception office at [email protected] confirming you wish to cancel your place. The college retains a €30 administration fee if a refund is claimed. Refunds will not be offered after this date. SUSI Grant

SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) is Ireland’s single national awarding authority for all higher and further education grants. SUSI offers funding to eligible students for level 5 and level 6 courses in Dunboyne College of Further Education. For more information visit www.susi.ie

Student Supports

Mentoring System

DCFE operates a mentoring system whereby a mentor is assigned to each learner to help them achieve them achieve the best possible results. Each mentor monitors the individual learner’s academic progress and attendance and will be in regular contact throughout the year. This is to help identify any difficulties the learner may be facing, and to offer support. There is a free counselling service available to any learner who wants to avail of it.

Special Educational Needs/ Learning Difficulties. Some students may require help with the transition to college life, guidance with their assignments or to avail of supports that are available (English as an Additional Language and SNA support).Areas of support include:

Formal educational assessments and Learning support for students with additional needs.

The Resource and Support area is open to all learners throughout the academic year every day from 9am until 3.40pm except Fridays, when it opens from 9am to 1pm.

Career Guidance and Counselling.

There are two qualified Guidance Counsellors on the staff who offer one to one and group careers information sessions. Students can also avail of confidential one to one appointments for well being support and counselling.

Academic Support

Accessible Classrooms 

Wheelchair user or students with mobility issues can contact the college where we will ensure that all classes and facilities are accessible to you

Assistants 

The college may be able to provide an assistant in certain circumstances who can come to classes with you for support

Exam support 

Supports can include extra time for exams, having the examiner read the questions to you, or taking exams in a private room and having an examiner scribe for you. 

Learning Support:

Students with additional learning needs can register with the Learning Hub for     support. This involves one to one academic support on assignments and              classwork. At exam times, students registered can avail of supports including        smaller exam centres and scribes.
