Originally established as Queens University Cork in 1845, UCC has a stunning campus with the River Lee flowing through it. Walk to Cork’s vibrant city centre in 15 minutes! UCC has three campuses: Main Campus, Western Campus and North Mall Campus, which are all located within a 15 minute walk of each other. It’s very easy to get around on foot and on wheels (bike, scooter or skateboard) and we even have a number of short looped campus walks that you can do in between lectures to help you keep well and get those all important steps in!.

Facilities

 

The Boole Library in UCC is named after George Boole (1815-1864), the first Professor of Mathematics in UCC. Booles’ mathematical logic is the basis of modern computer technology. Guidance on the use of library services is provided at the beginning of the academic year.

The University Student Health Department offers health services to students designed to complement their own GP care. In 2015 UCC became Ireland’s first recognised Health promoting University. Each year UCC Health Matters is involved in the organisation of many events and campaigns on campus including pedometer and cycling challenges, Health Matters Day, Mental Health Week, Sexual Health awareness week, Staff Wellbeing Day, UCC Desk to 5K and The Big UCC Cycle.

 

The Chaplaincy at UCC is a service that offers friendship and support to all within the University community. It is a place for all, where students can meet in the warm and welcoming environment of the tea room, or take time out for quiet reflection and prayer. The Chaplaincy is open to students of all faiths and of none.

 

A childcare facility is available at Creche Cois Laoi, Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC. The aim of the crèche is to provide a service that children will enjoy and where they will progress to their full potential during their stay.

 

Clubs & Societies

We have a wide range of traditional field sports such as soccer, rugby, and GAA, exciting water sports such as canoeing, surfing and sailing, to alternative modern sports such as ultimate Frisbee and trampolining. The most difficult decision you face is deciding which club to join.

There are over 100 Societies on offer in UCC ranging from academic, creative, charitable, political, debating, religious and social. Societies are student-run and open to all students. They enable you to seek our unusual skills, continue hobbies, make new friends and of course having heaps of fun. It also gives you an opportunity to travel and represent the University at a national and international level.

Information Technology

UCC has a number of open access IT Centres on and off the main campus which registered UCC students are welcome to use at any time during opening hours. In addition, we provide online services such as Umail (Student email), Blackboard (Online Learning), MyStudentAdmin (Student Record) and ECDL training. A limited number of Chromebook laptops are available for students to borrow within the UCC Boole Library.

Sports & Fitness

UCC boasts three large sporting and recreation facilities: Mardyke Sports Grounds (17 acres), Curraheen Road Sports Grounds (The Farm) which comprises of 53 acres of groomed playing fields providing training and a home facility for UCC Soccer, Rugby, GAA Cricket, Ultimate Frisbee and other clubs on a weekly basis and the Mardyke Arena Sports Centre.

Fees and Grants

Fees consist of three elements – Student Contribution, Capitation and Tuition Fees. Under the Free Fees Initiative, the State pays the tuition fees for eligible full-time, non-repeat undergraduate EU/EEA/Swiss States students. The student capitation fee in 2017/18 was €3,000 and the capitation fee was €165.
