Location

Dublin is music. It’s a vital, living part of the city’s identity with music venues on every corner, from iconic arenasto atmospheric bars. A stroll around Dublin is like a musical history tour. From the musical hub of Wexford Street to The Workman’s Club – venues run by music fans for music fans – the soundtrack to Dublin is as varied as it comes: trad to electro- pop, folk to rock, pop to rockabilly, all blaring out from pubs and bars. Just follow your ears.

Guests and Masterclasses

At BIMM, you’ll learn from the best. Hosted by the industry’s biggest artists and most respected professionals, our regular masterclasses are a great opportunity to pick up insider knowledge and fill your contacts book, as you network with A-list musicians, songwriters, label executives, A&Rs and booking agents. Previous guests include: The Edge (U2), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Hozier, John Grant, Danny O’Donoghue (The Script), Imelda May, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy), Lianne La Havas, Snarky Puppy and a number of world renowned session musicians including Thomas Lang, John Scofield, Stu Hamm and producer Ethan Johns.

Live music is a vital part of the modern industry, so don’t expect your life at BIMM to be spent snoozing in a classroom. Instead, your course will take you to the heart of the city’s local scene, where you’ll sharpen your live chops and business acumen as you play, stage and promote regular gigs. You’ll also help to run BIMM’s end-of-term gigs, showcasing our musicians, bands and songwriters at events across the city. 

Tutors

All of our tutors are experienced music industry professionals. Their expertise range from songwriting and performance to music production, publishing and all things music business related. Our faculty includes active members on the Irish and international music scenes such as Rory Doyle (Hozier), Ro Yourell (Delorentos), Danny Snow (Villagers) Cormac Curran, (Hozier, Villagers, Lisa Hannigan, John Grant), Alan Duggan (Girlband), Louise MacNamara (Heathers) and music managers Michael Roe (All Tvvins) and Jim Lawless (The Coronas).

BIMM Institute Dublin programmes enhances student employability prospects in a variety of areas in the music and creative industries including the following: commercial band performance, live session playing, playing on recording sessions, band management, music journalism, live TV and radio broadcasting, tour management, stage management, film, game and multimedia licensing and music composition, performing in both wedding and cover function bands, musical theatre, working in a variety of roles in music venues, event promotion, Artiste and Repertoire and record labels, working in live music agencies and teaching music.

Clubs & Societies

Alongside lessons we run clubs, such as Keyboard Club and Business Club. We offer to unlimited career tutorials, so you can discuss your future music industry goals and pastoral meetings with our dedicated Student Services team to help you deal with any personal issued whilst you’re studying. 

 

 

Accommodation

Applicants are required to find housing privately however we do have various resources available to help you in your search for accommodation! As there is heavy demand for student accommodation in Dublin we advise you to look as early as possible.

Dublin has various types of accommodation available such as private student accommodation, house shares, flats and ‘digs’ with a host family. Facebook is also a great way of linking up with students at BIMM and our Student Services team have a dedicated private Facebook group to help students advertise rooms and team up to find accommodation. Fees and Grants

BA (HONS) IN COMMERCIAL MODERN MUSIC

This course is part of the Free Fees Scheme, so if you’re eligible, you’ll only have to pay the student contribution fee which is currently €3,000. To check if you are, take a look at the Student Finance website. Detailed information on fees is available from the Registration Office at DIT.

For further information on additional funding you can also contact Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI).

FOUNDATION DIPLOMA IN PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANSHIP

For the academic year 2019/2020, fees for this course are €2,200. They’re payable directly to BIMM Dublin, with a deposit of €300 required to accept and secure a place on the course. A monthly payment plan is available for this course.

BIMM DUBLIN DIPLOMA IN MUSIC AND AUDIO PRODUCTION AND DIPLOMA IN MUSIC BUSINESS

For the academic year 2019/2020, fees for this course are €2,200. They’re payable directly to BIMM Dublin, with a deposit of €300 required to accept and secure a place on the course. A monthly payment plan is available for this course.

Student Supports

We are committed to helping students fulfil their potential during their time at BIMM Institute Dublin and we place an emphasis on supporting the development of our students both academically and personally. With this in mind, the Student Services team is available at every step of the student journey to offer confidential support and guidance on issues such as stress, alcohol and drugs, disability and learning support, family/friends/relationship problems, sexual health, eating disorders, depression and anxiety issues; as well as on-going academic and practical learning support and advice. We also offer a wide range of additional support services that are designed to meet students’ academic and welfare needs and to enrich the BIMM Institute Dublin experience including disability support and counselling.

BIMM Institute Dublin is situated in the heart of Dublin’s Liberties and operates out of two campuses, Francis St and the Coombe, a short 15-minute walk from Dublin City Centre.

BIMM Institute Dublin is well connected to the rest of the city via public transport .

BIKE/WALK

Dublin’s centre is compact and easily walkable and good for cycling. Dublin Bikes is the bike sharing scheme for Dublin city. The stations are distributed throughout the city centre to enable easy access and optimal use. More info can be found at Dublin Bikes website.

BUS

BIMM Institute Dublin’s Francis Street and Coombe buildings are well serviced by buses from all over the city. There are bus stops on Patrick Street, Thomas Street and Cork Street that are just a stone’s throw away from BIMM Institute Dublin.

TRAIN/LUAS

BIMM is easily accessible from Dublin’s four main railway stations – Heuston, Connolly, Pearse Street and Tara Street. The LUAS stops at St. Stephen’s Green, James’s Street and the Four Courts are all within walking distance of BIMM. Have a look at irishrail.ie and luas.ie for more information
