The Try Social Science event at the Department of Applied Arts in WIT is aimed at transition, fifth and sixth year students.

This one-day taster course is an interactive experience highlighting how social science can broaden your horizons, open up debate and give us a say in shaping our collective future. 

Participants will get an opportunity to engage with and debate a range of social science topics in a series of talks throughout the event. You will meet with lecturers and students to discuss all aspects of the course and college life. Information will also be presented about the career opportunities that exist for social science graduates.

Try Social Science theme

The theme of the Try Social Science event will be ‘Alternative Futures

Students will explore and debate questions such as:

  • What is the future of work?
  • Promoting and protecting people’s well-being
  • Environment and climate justice
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Technology and social relationships
  • What is the most moral form of government?

Social Science course

The BA (Hons) Social Science is a multi-disciplinary three year course. In times of rapid social and economic change, this programme offer students the opportunity to understand and critically analyse contemporary Irish society and Ireland’s place in an increasingly globalised world.
