The South East Engineering Festival

The festival is a partnership between Waterford Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology Carlow who are joining together in order to become a Technological University for the South East Region of Ireland.

Engineers design complicated things that make our everyday lives easy. Engineers then lead teams to build and make these things. The sort of things that engineers design are buildings, bridges, roads, water supplies, electricity supplies, mobile phones, computers and much more. Engineers are also working to find ways of reducing the threat Climate Change. The Idea of the South East Engineering Festival is that people in the South East of Ireland can learn what engineers do. There are lots of great jobs in engineering in the region and you can learn to be an engineer at the new Technological University at either Carlow or Waterford

STEMreach is a major STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) initiative developed by Calmast STEM Engagement Centre. The initiative was developed to provide sustained engagement through partnership in the South-East in Ireland. STEMreach connects higher education, industry, governmental and non-governmental bodies with primary and post-primary schools and wider society and is designed to benefit educational attainment, economy and culture in the region. A key component is linking students with industry partners through career talks and workshops. STEMreach is an effective way of engaging learners in all areas of STEM.

This semester students will take programmes in creative problem solving and sustainability.
