TU Dublin Transition Year Public Health Nutrition and Dietetics Camp

The College of Sciences and Health, Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), is delighted to offer two Sciences and Health Camps for Transition Year students in the spring of 2020. These camps will run on TU Dublin’s state-of-the-art Grangegorman Campus in Dublin City Centre, with some sessions taking place in the campuses at Cathal Brugha St and Kevin St, both in Dublin City Centre.

Secondary schools can nominate two students to participate in each of these camps. Additional students can be nominated for the waiting list. Application forms can be requested from [email protected]. The application deadline is Friday, 17^th January 2020.

There is no fee for participation but spaces are limited, so notification needs to be provided at least three weeks in advance of the camp is a participant is unable to attend.

This five day Science Camp will provide students with insight into the work that Public Health Nutritionists and Dietitians undertake. The programme is developed for students to participate in interactive workshops, labs, presentations and talks and is designed to let them experience the huge breadth of Human Nutrition. This will help students explore important nutrition related matters such as

• food labels, nutritional claims on common foods and how to design healthy meal plans.
• how we perceive the basic taste sensations.
• analysing their own diet using the latest nutritional software.
• understanding clinical markers (e.g. Heart rate; Body Composition; Resting Metabolic Rate) and what it means for your health.
