The College of Sciences and Health, Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), is delighted to offer two Sciences and Health Camps for Transition Year students in the spring of 2020. These camps will run on TU Dublin’s state-of-the-art Grangegorman Campus in Dublin City Centre, with some sessions taking place in the campuses at Cathal Brugha St and Kevin St, both in Dublin City Centre.

Secondary schools can nominate two students to participate in each of these camps. Additional students can be nominated for the waiting list. Application forms can be requested from [email protected]. The application deadline is Friday, 17^th January 2020.

There is no fee for participation but spaces are limited, so notification needs to be provided at least three weeks in advance of the camp is a participant is unable to attend.

This four day camp gives provides students a hands on experience of the science of food. Day 1 will consist of a campus tour, lightening talks by researchers and a sensory science workshop. Days 2 and 3 will consist of six laboratory sessions which include

• measuring caffeine in different energy drinks.
• determining the antioxidant capacity of different herbs.
• spray drying – transforming liquids into powders.

Small groups will ensure students get to partake in each experiment.

Day 4 will include a workshop on science in society, a demonstration of 3D printing of food before working in groups to develop a poster to display their experimental results.
