Games Fleadh 2024 set to take place at TUS Thurles Campus

We look forward to welcoming Games Fleadh 2024 to TUS Thurles campus on Wednesday 6th March. Now in its 21st year, the annual games design and development competition will once again recognise the brightest and best among the country’s students game developers. The theme for 2024 is ‘Start with Nothing’.

Now one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global economy, the gaming industry is taking the world by storm, and experts are predicting the market to reach $321 billion by 2026 according to a recent PWC report. Over the past-two decades, Ireland’s national Games Fleadh has seen student software developers and game enthusiasts of all levels across Ireland come together at the TUS Thurles Campus to participate in the popular one-day event. Schools and students are welcome to attend and booking can be made online at Games Fleadh 2024 - TUS and more information on Games Fleadh 2024 is available from Dr Liam Noonan at: [email protected]

TUS becomes first Irish University to lead a European University AllianceTUS was proud to make history recently in being the first Irish university to lead a European University Alliance. During the inaugural meeting of the Regional University Network - European University (RUN-EU) 2.0 held in TUS Moylish campus, Limerick on January 18th, TUS played host to the presidents of partner higher education institutions from seven countries, including new members from Belgium and Spain. The presidents, led by TUS President, Professor Vincent Cunnane, also met with Limerick City and County Council and other regional stakeholders, highlighting the importance and opportunity of the TUS leadership to the regions we serve.

TUS strengthens ties with Nurture Africa, expanding student volunteer opportunities

TUS has renewed and expanded its partnership with Nurture Africa, an Irish-founded NGO providing vulnerable communities in Uganda with access to healthcare and education. The three-year agreement grants eligibility to all TUS students to apply to volunteer with Nurture Africa on their summer programme; previously, this opportunity was only available to TUS nursing students. This summer, participating students will fly to Nansana, Uganda, Nurture Africa’s headquarters, for three weeks to gain insight into development work in another country, working on projects like HIV testing, vaccination clinics, health promotion, educational talks, literacy, and sustainable livelihood visits. All healthcare activities will be supervised by qualified clinical practitioners and all student volunteers will work closely with community workers to understand the needs of the vulnerable Ugandan communities they’re supporting.
