Students excel on the DKIT Business Degree in conjunction with Monaghan Institute

Posted on July 14, 2020

We could not be happier for the third year Business Degree students on completing their final year of their Level 8 Business award at DKIT. Students Ashling Burns, Evelyn Burns, Claire Rushe, Denise Martin, Feargal O Dowd, Jennifer Shannon, Maria Ferguson, Rebecca Ross, and Sharon Wright completed year one and two of this course at Monaghan Institute and recently completed their finals. We wish all the students every success in their future endeavours.

This degree programme is a management award that develops academic, intellectual and personal capability and enables graduates to work as business professionals who will lead and sustain Irish industry on a national and international basis. Year 1 and 2 of the degree has been hosted at Monaghan Institute for a number of years and this collaboration with DkIT has been very successful.

Claire Rushe, who progressed through Monaghan Institute’s QQI Level 5 & 6 Business awards before embarking on the degree programme, said:

I am delighted to have achieved a First-Class Honours degree in Business from DkIT. I could not have done so without the excellent foundation I gained while studying at Monaghan Institute prior to beginning my degree programme.

Denise Martin, who completed the Advanced QQI Level 6 IT & Business Management course in Monaghan Institute before participating on the Level 8 Business Degree, also added:

I am thrilled to have achieved a First-class honours degree in Business. I began my education journey attending Monaghan Institute in 2016 and I got the taste for college and decided to enrol for the DkIT degree course that is run in collaboration with Monaghan Institute. Being a mature student with a young family and having been away from education for a long time, completing the Level 6 gave me a great foundation and I felt really prepared starting the degree. The lecturers in both colleges were outstanding and so supportive. I am delighted to have achieved my goal and I would say to anyone considering going back to education, to just go for it.”

Evelyn Burns, who commenced her journey at Monaghan Institute in 2015 completing the Level 5 in Tourism Course, followed by the Level 6 in Advanced IT & Business Management Course said:

Monaghan Institute provided me with the opportunity to obtain skills that have helped me to achieve my goal of undertaking and completing my Honours Degree in Business at Dundalk Institute of Technology. These skills included IT, Communications and Assignment skills. My time as both a Monaghan Institute and Dundalk Institute of Technology student was enjoyable, it presented both educational and personal challenges, while also offering the opportunity to meet amazing fellow students and form new friendships.

We remember student Mallor Piho at this time, who had completed the Level 6 Business course in MI before progressing onto this Business Degree. It was with great sadness that we learned of his recent passing. Our condolences are with his family and his fellow classmates.
