Monaghan Institute Students Raise Fantastic €1,187 for SOSAD Monaghan

Posted on March 29, 2022

The QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Applied Social Studies students studying at Monaghan Institute planned and organised a number of fundraising events during March with all proceeds raised being donated to SOSAD (Save Our Sons and Daughters) Monaghan. The class group held a Mental Health and Wellbeing seminar for staff and students in the college on Tuesday 15th March. This seminar included a mindfulness session, tips for dealing with exam stress and generating awareness regarding SOSAD and the services it offers. This seminar was recorded and circulated via email to all students and staff who may have missed attending the live session. The students organised a bake sale which was held in the canteen. A raffle was also held after the bake sale. Students would like to thank the local organisations who kindly sponsored a range of great prizes. On the 22nd of March the students organised a bucket collection in Monaghan town and would like to thank members of the public who kindly donated on the day.

All proceeds raised were donated to SOSAD Monaghan on Thursday 24th March. The students raised an incredible €1,187. Ms Geraldine Watterson (SOSAD Representative) stated when accepting this donation “This money will benefit the amazing work that SOSAD does in the local community. SOSAD believes that early intervention is essential in preventing suicide, a major heart-breaking issue of our time. By the actions of your group in organising the well-being seminar, talking to other students, staff, and the general public about SOSAD, it helps to raise awareness of the variety of free services we provide. It is vital to get this message out so we can help provide professional assistance to those individuals in need”.

SOSAD provide services such as counselling, crisis support, a helpline, a messaging service, and a Drop-in Centre. If you require counselling or crisis support: Please contact 1800-901-909
