Smedia win for Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education Entrepreneurship Student

Posted on April 16, 2024

CDCFE are delighted to announce that Entrepreneurship student Mariia Koshyrenkova was awarded the Virgin Media Content Creator prize at the Student Media Awards at a ceremony held in the Mansion House, sponsored by Boost drinks Ireland.

Mariia’s project “Paws from Ukraine” was selected from over one hundred student entries. The social media content campaign raised awareness of a calendar which was developed with the help of Mariia’s fellow student Charlie Murphy. The pair travelled around Ireland photographing pet dogs that accompanied their owners when fleeing the war in Ukraine. Proceeds from the calendar went to the Irish Blue Cross animal charity. Mariia’s project saw off competition from other nominees in the category from University of Limerick and Trinity College Dublin.

Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE Media Production HND student Stephen White was also nominated in this category, one of six overall nominations for CDCFE. Film and Television Production BA graduate Joseph Reilly, was nominated in the Short Film category for his film “Blurred Vision”, which will be screened at the upcoming Fastnet Film Festival.

Current Traineeship in TV & Film Production student Evan Meates was nominated in two categories – Radio Documentary and Film Documentary for his projects “The Mighty Ravens” and “Aspergers Flirtation”. Evan, who himself has autism, documented the dating scene for autistic people as well as a radio documentary about a Special Olympics bowling team based in north Dublin.

“The Quill”, a publication by the Creative Writing class in CDCFE was nominated in the Small College or Society Publication of the Year category, but lost out narrowly to Trinity College Dublin. Media Department Head, Denise O’Connor said “we are so proud of what these students have accomplished. To be nominated at national student level alongside the elite universities is an amazing achievement and is testament to the hard work that the students put in as well as the support from their tutors while studying at Coláiste Dhúlaigh”.
