BCFE Radio Graduates

Posted on January 10, 2020

Just three years ago Jessica presented her inaugural radio show as a student in the BCFE Social Area. She has come a long way in the last few years. Now she has a gig as a presenter on what many consider the Biggest Music Radio station in the World, BBC Radio 1 FM. With a long application list, Jessica came out on top and we couldn’t be more excited and proud of her.

Jessica told us “Since I graduated September 2018, I have been able to use all of the skills that I got from my MRH Radio Course to help me progress in the industry. The 3 years I spent in BCFE on the MRH Radio Course and the BAMPM Degree helped me to open up as a person and meet and network with new people. Having lecturers who have worked in the industry was such a huge advantage and really prepared me for what was to come”. Jessica had a fantastic article published in Evoke.ie . Jessica took part in BCFE’s Erasmus programme while attendinding the college and completed a placement in Finland. You may like to see Jessica’s Erasmus+ radio placement with Spirit FM Finland.

2018 Graduate Tara Walsh gives Guest Lecture

MRH Radio graduate Tara Walsh returned to BCFE to give a workshop to the current radio class.

Whilst most love keeping up with Celebrity Gossip and entertainment, 2018 Radio Graduate Tara Walsh gets paid for it. Tara can be heard as the entertainment reporter for SPIN 1038 and SPIN South West. She also presents her own shows every Saturday 3pm to 7pm on SPIN 1038.

Tara told the current students “My job involves writing on air entertainment news bulletins and presenting them live every hour across the day. In addition to this, I write entertainment articles for both station’s websites”.

“I began my career in radio as a student at Ballyfermot College of Further Education in 2016. At that time, I knew absolutely no one in the industry and I had very little experience in broadcasting. Thanks to my amazing lecturers, I made contacts in the industry and managed to get my foot in the door and I can’t recommend this college highly enough”

In her final year, Tara did her Erasmus to 89.7 Bay Radio in Malta, the number one station there.
