FET Course of the Week: 5M2083 - Hotel & Catering at Cavan Institute

5M2083 - Hotel & Catering at Cavan Institute is a one year full time programme that aims to prepare learns for a career in the hotel and catering industry. There is a strong emphasis on the practical application of practical skills learned in the classroom. Students learn to adapt to the fast paced and ever changing food and beverages, accommodation and food preparation sectors.

Student can opt to work towards and gain a EHAI (Environmental Health Association of Ireland) certification in Food safety, which is valid for five years. This certification is a legal requirement for anyone working with food in a range of sectors to have this.

Learners will gain the skills to understand the structure and organisation of the accommodation department of a hotel, legislation and become familiar with accommodation service terminology. Students will become learned with the heating, lighting and ventilation systems in place during hospitality operations. Particpants on this course will learn how to execute menu planning, develop a strong knowledge of different meals and cuisines, the time to prepare such dishes and the suitability of such dishes.

Entry Requirements:

-        Leaving Certificate / LCVP / LCA or recognised equivalent.

-        Mature applicants will be considered even if they do not meet these entry requirements
