Applications for the MTU Kerry Campus Sports Scholarship Programme 2021/2022 is now open.

Complete all sections of this application form and return to the Sports Officer, MTU Kerry Campus, by no later than 5.00 pm on Friday 5th March 2021.

Please note that at this point it is envisaged that Sports Scholarship interviews will take place online this year given current circumstances. However this will all be confirmed closer to the time taking public health guidelines into consideration. All applications will go through a screening process and applicants will be informed in writing if they have been called to interview.

Entry Requirements

Scholarship Applicants must meet a common minimum cut-off point for all programmes:

Higher Certificate (Level 6) - minimum requirements

130 points

Ordinary Degree (Level 7) - minimum requirements

150 points

Honours Degree (Level 8) - minimum requirements

200 points


Note:  There are two (2) places in total reserved for the Nursing Programmes i.e. TL890 B.Sc. (Hons) in General Nursing/TL891 B.Sc. (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing. These two places are reserved for applicants who are within 60 points of the Leaving Certificate Cut Off Points.

Leaving Certificate Or Equivalent Examination Applicant

Higher Certificate (NFQ Level 6)

Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations, obtaining a minimum grade O6/H7 in English or Gaeilge, O6/H7 in mathematics or a minimum grade of F2 in foundation level mathematics (in specified courses) and O6/H7 in three other subjects.

Degree (NFQ Level 7)

Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations, obtaining a minimum grade O6/H7 in English or Gaeilge, O6/H7 in mathematics or a minimum grade of F2 in foundation level mathematics (in specified courses) and O6/H7 in three other subjects.

Please Note:

A minimum grade of F2 in foundation level mathematics fulfils the minimum entry requirements in mathematics for the following programmes:

  • TL731 Bachelor of Business;
  • TL780 Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Care and Education;
  • TL781 Bachelor of Arts in Social Care.

Honours Degree (NFQ Level 8)

Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations obtaining two H5 and four O6/H7 grades. Candidates are required to obtain a minimum of O6/H7 in English or Gaeilge and mathematics.

Scholarship Details:

Past recipients were involved in Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Camogie, Football, Handball, Hockey, Hurling, Judo, Ladies Soccer, Rowing, Rugby, Soccer and Tae Kwon-Do

Value: Up to a maximum of €1,000 per year, subject to satisfactory academic performance each year

Duration: For the full course i.e. of 2, 3 or 4 years duration, subject to annual review
