Calling all animal lovers! If you have a passion for creatures big and small, and a curiosity for the fascinating world of animal health, it's time to explore a rewarding career in MT781: Animal Bioscience at MTU Kerry which offers a comprehensive programme. You'll delve into the study of diagnosing and controlling diseases in animals, understanding the intricate link between humans and animals, and unravelling the secrets of animal biology.

This three year programme is delivered by experienced veterinarians and life scientists and will guide students to a greater knowledge of animals, how their bodies function, understand the processes of veterinary pharmaceuticals. Students will learn to operate within laboratory diagnostics and carry out research into animal health.

Learners will become familiar with animal behaviours and their link to wellbeing and observations of animal physiology and veterinary anatomy, the ability to study and understand the bone framework of animals, the logans of the organ and a knowledge of different animal body systems.

-        Animal and Plant Biology 1

-        Animal Behaviour and Welfare

-        Physics Concepts

-        Mathematics and Statistics for Science

-        Veterinary Histology 1

-        Animal Nutrition 1 and Quality Control

-        Animal Reproduction 1

-        Biochemistry 2

-        Molecular Biology with Bioinformatics

-        Bioseparation Techniques

Entry Requirements:

As of 2022, the points required for this course 234 and this is subject to change. Applicants will need to have a minimum of a O6/H7 in English or Irish or Maths.

Students with a QQI Level 5 or Level 6 Major Award can use this course for entry into this level 7. To see these courses click here.

Career Progression:

Graduates of this Level 7 will be equipped with the skills to work animal diagnostics laboratories, within the animal biopharmaceutical industry. Other roles Animal Bioscience graduates go into are pharmaceutical drug and vaccine developers and animal diagnostic laboratory officer.

This programme doesn’t entitle graduates to work as veterinary nurses or veterinary practitioners.
