UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science launches new Crop Science degree programme for 2021 Entry. A reconfiguration of DN250 Agricultural Science expands offering and choice.
The UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science has launched a new Crop Science programme for entry from September 2021. This exciting new programme is the only third level Crop Science degree programme offered in Ireland. With an increasing demand for highly qualified graduates in the area of crop agronomy graduates from this programme will be qualified to address a skills shortage highlighted in this sector. There are now 14 undergraduate programme entry routes offered at the School of Agriculture and Food Science.
Other changes for September 2021 entry include a reconfiguration of some existing programme codes and entry routes which will provide students with more choice and time to select their preferred programme at UCD. For many students interested in studying Agricultural Science, choosing which subject area they would like to specialise in while completing their CAO form can be challenging. Students selecting Agricultural Science DN250 (No Preference) will now have 11 exciting programme options to choose from including Dairy Business, Agri-Environmental Sciences, Forestry and Horticulture which were accessible via different CAO codes last year.
Once a student receives an offer on the Agricultural Science programme (DN250) they are guaranteed a place in any of the eleven specialisations from second year and do not have to choose their specialisation until the end of first year. The degree specialisations on offer are:
There are also separate CAO entry codes for Food Science (DN261) and Human Nutrition (DN262).
Students at the school continually rate the opportunity to travel abroad during their studies as a highlight. Students enrolled on the BAgrSc & BSc Food Science programme have the option to study in America, Australia or New Zealand during third year and Professional Work Experience (PWE) which is taken during third year can also be taken overseas.
The School of Agriculture and Food Science is one of UCD’s largest Schools and is the number one destination of choice in Ireland for students who wish to study Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Food Science and Human Nutrition. There are two distinct undergraduate degree pathways, a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (BAgrSc) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc), which are both four-year, level 8 honours degrees.
This year’s brochure contains individual Programme Pathway Models for each of the fourteen available entry routes, clearly outlining the subjects and career opportunities.
