DIFE launches new Special Needs Assistant Course for September 2021
DIFE are delighted to announce the development of a new Special Needs Assistant (SNA) course to enable learners complete studies in Special Educational Needs to facilitate progression to both employment and further studies in this area. This course qualifies participants to work as SNA’s in primary and secondary school classrooms or special schools, supporting children in their learning environment. This programme will also allow for a professional placement within a variety of educational contexts and community care settings.
The course will include specialist areas of study in understanding special needs, intellectual disability studies, equality and disability and child development. Learners will also complete tailored workshops in autism, learning disabilities, first aid, management of actual or potential aggression and people handling.
Graduates can progress directly to employment in a variety of educational contexts and community care settings. Alternatively, graduates may progress to further studies through the Higher Education Links Scheme in specialist social care, psychology, social studies, and early childhood care and education degree programmes including:
- Psychology, Social Science, Arts: Maynooth University
- Arts (Children and Youth Studies), Applied Social Sciences. Psychology and Sociology, Psychology: NUI Galway
- Psychology, Social Policy and Sociology, Social Sciences: UCD
- Social Care, Early Childhood Care & Education, Community Development and Youth Work: TU Dublin
- Health and Society: DCU
The course is suitable for both school leavers and experienced or mature students seeking a formal qualification and looking to develop a career in this rewarding and fulfilling field.
