Tourism Course of the Month: Business in Tourism Marketing at SETU Carlow
Business in Tourism Marketing at SETU Carlow is a one-year level 8 Higher Diploma for career changers and those already in tourism. As the economy grows, more tourism sector jobs emerge. This programme provides skills in culture, tourism, marketing (including e-marketing), and business.
Upon programme completion, students will demonstrate in-depth knowledge, skills, and competencies in strategic planning and sustainable tourism management (business and services) within specific contexts of location, resources, and markets. They have a knowledge of frameworks providing both theory and practical marketing tools for Business and Tourism. Additionally, they understand the linkages between competitive dynamics, macro and microeconomics, and the economic benefits to the tourism industry.
Students will study for one year part time, two nights a week 7pm – 10pm with the occasional Saturday throughout the year.

- Online Marketing Strategy and Practice
- Management and Financial Planning
- Tourism Operations

Entry Requirements:
- Level 7 or Level 8 award in Business or non-business area required for entry
- Other applicants are considered on an individual basis in accordance with SETU Carlow policy on RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
- Applicants are required to attend for interview
Progression:
This programme equips graduates with the foundation and maturity to progress to either the Master of Business or the MSc in Digital Marketing part-time programmes, depending on their general business experience. Graduate could expect to be eligible for employment in the career area of travel in an a travel agency, in a tourist office organising tours, guiding and more.
