John Banville announced as Visting Professor of Creative Writing

Posted on April 28, 2023 John Banville, the prolific novelist and winner of the Man Booker Prize (now the Booker Prize for Fiction), has been announced as a Visiting Professor of Creative Writing for the 2019-20 academic year at University College Cork. In addition to being an award-winning writer, John Banville also served as the literary editor for the Irish Times between 1988 and 1999. Banville's publications extend beyond those bearing his name; he has also written a number of crime novels under the pseudonym Benjamin Black.

As part of his role as a Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at UCC, Banville will teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with giving two public readings. Banville will be joining the UCC School of English and Digital Humanities, which is ranked in the top 150 schools for English language and literature in the world.

The Wexford writer boasts an impressive catalogue and his works include Birchwood, Doctor Copernicus, and The Sea, which was awarded the Man Booker Prize in 2005. Find out more about John Banville here.
