LYIT’s Civil Engineering and Construction Students provide an insight on programmes

Posted on June 10, 2021

Letterkenny Institute of Technology’s (LYIT) Department of Civil Engineering & Construction offers a wide range of courses covering the broad built environment spectrum of disciplines including civil engineering, fire safety engineering, architectural technology, quantity surveying and construction management.

Click here to find out what LYIT’s students have to say about the programmes.

Recognising the importance of having both nationally and internationally recognised qualifications of a verified standard, the Department seeks professional accreditation for all degree programmes.

The BEng in Civil Engineering and BSc (Hons) Fire Safety Engineering (LY508) are accredited for Associate Engineer membership by Engineers Ireland, while the BEng (Hons) in Fire Safety Engineering is fully accredited by Engineers Ireland (as meeting the educational standard for Chartered Engineer with further study).

The BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying (LY518) is accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), and the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology (LY538) has Accredited in Principle by CIAT (Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists).

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) accredits the BSc (Hons) in Construction Management (LY528) as well as the Level 7 and Level 8 degrees in Quantity Surveying (LY507, LY518). LYIT is also an Academic Partner of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).

The Department takes a lead in developing emerging legislative targets such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Lean Construction, nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) and Passive House Construction. Part-time classes such as the Certificates in Revit & 4D BIM and Applied Fire Safety Management offer industry, both locally and nationally, the opportunity to avail of our professional facilities and expertise.
