WIT - Is Tourism the key to help unlock Ireland from Covid-19?

Tourism, I have no doubt says Mr Ray Cullen, Head of the Department of Language, Tourism and Hospitality, will be one of main keys to unlock the recovery of Ireland from Covid-19. It is an industry that has survived many previous crises and grown in strength and diversity with a proven track record of resilience, innovation and creativity.

As one of the largest industries in the country, tourism will play a significant role in the recovery of Ireland's economy.

There now exists an opportunity to rethink tourism and do things better: tourism education and training will have a major part to play in the response to Covid-19, and in building resilience for the future.

A career in tourism will be a vital part of the national effort to help to rebuild the vitally important tourism sector, and the wider economy. We in training and education are responding to the ‘new world’ which Covid-19 has brought to our shores, and this requires us to change our approach to the new challenges that will impact on our industry and the consumer.

To achieve this innovative and creativity graduates will be needed to join the thousands of other graduates now employed in Irish tourism, to shape and lead the recovery.

The department offers programmes in Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary arts from Higher Certificate to Degree level programmes and serve to enhance the overall development of our students and their graduate attributes through immersion in cutting edge knowledge, skills and practice.
