Higher Education Course of the Week: GY113 - Arts with Human Rights - University of Galway

Arts with Human Rights at University of Galway is a four year insightful Level 8 course which sets you up for a career in the History, Culture and Languages and Law and Legal career sectors. Education is provided through a multitude of methods including project based work, educational placement in the community, portfolio preparation, creative practice, a period of study abroad at an international university, service learning, and placements within NGOs (non-governmental organisations).

This programme is unique as it is the only undergraduate course of its kind in the Republic of Ireland that enables students to specialise in a field previously reserved to postgraduate students.

Students examine the philosophical basis, history and origin of human rights.

  • Medieval Ireland and Europe
  • Principles of Microeconomics
  • An Teanga Bheo
  • Geography in Practice
  • Castles, Colonists & Crannogs 1100 – 1350
  • Statistics for Economics
  • German Language I
  • European Union Law
  • Microeconomics and Public Policy

Entry Requirements

As of 2022 the points required for this course are 353. Applicants will need a minimum of O6/H7 in English, O6/H7 in Irish and O6/H7 in Any Other Language. Students must satisfy the Garda/Police vetting requirements.

Students may spend a semester or a year abroad studying through the medium of their target language. Students who choose to study Irish will spend an academic year studying Irish in the Gaeltacht and on work placement in an Irish medium setting.

The degree provides a firm basis for further study at the postgraduate level, including all LLM programmes offered by the Irish Centre for Human Rights such as:
