Maynooth University New Programme: MSc Robotics & Embedded AI:

The Robotics and Embedded AI MSc will provide graduates in computing, engineering and cognate disciplines with specialised training in the design and control of intelligent machines. Robotics is a multi-disciplinary field of study requiring skills in computing, electronics and mechanical engineering.

Teamwork, innovation and the validation of science through practice are central to this success in this field. The programme has a large team project each semester where students explore the application of the theories of robotics with a focus on design thinking and innovation in the first semester and system realisation and evaluation in the second semester. In the third semester, they undertake a large independent research project in partnership with industry or the robotics research group.

Given the diverse backgrounds of the student intake, the programme provides two main pathways: 1. students from a computing background are introduced to the engineering principles of control theory, digital signal processing and robotics. 2. for students coming from an engineering or robotics background, some courses focus on AI, deep learning and computation.

Maynooth University New programme: MA Business Translation & Intercultural Communication in English & Spanish

The MA in Business Translation and Intercultural Communication in English and Spanish is the result of a collaboration between the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Maynooth University and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain. The proposed programme offers students a variety of modules relating to translation, intercultural communication, business and organisational culture.

The course will be ideally suited to graduates who are already proficient in English and Spanish, and who wish to maximise the applicability of these linguistic competencies to the demands of the contemporary international business workplace, including (but not limited to) the practice of applied translation.

The programme also offers prospective students unique opportunities for international mobility and relevant international work experience. Students will complete their first semester at Maynooth University, where they will take a variety of modules in Translation and Business; following this, they will relocate to Bilbao, where they will complete their second semester at the University of Deusto, taking a variety of additional modules that will complement and build upon the modules taken at Maynooth. Having completed both semesters of taught modules, students will then complete a three-month work placement at a company or organisation located in Ireland or Spain. This final component of the programme will be complemented by the completion of a final report and a viva voce exam, which will give students the opportunity to reflect upon their work placement in the context of the overall programme content and objectives.
