Griffith College and Pat Divilly Team Up to Promote Positive Mental Health During COVID19

Posted on June 9, 2020 Many of our daily routines have been turned upside down since the closure of the country due to coronavirus. Our lives have been put on hold and most of us are restricted in what we can do.

Because of this upheaval, it’s more important than ever to nurture our mental health. In an attempt to promote positive mental health, we’ve teamed up with Pat Divilly to offer some guidance and advice that you’re sure to benefit from.

Unprecedented Times In this three-part series, Pat explores: Staying Motivated Dealing with Uncertainty Meditating & Journaling Staying motivated can be difficult when you’re under stress, which many people are in these unprecedented times.

“The world as we know its has changed and feelings of stress and overwhelm are common”.

In ‘Dealing with Uncertainty’, Pat explores our basic need to have structure and routine. This has been interfered with on an account of COVID. He offers some guidance as to how one might overcome any anxiety surrounding uncertainty.

“We’re dealing with unprecedented times, everything has been thrown up into the air and it feels like things are changing on a daily and weekly basis.”

“When I’ve got stories in my head of what could go wrong, it tends to become a horror story! I replay those stories and they get more and more dramatic. For me, when I get stuff onto paper it becomes a lot more practical. Two simple exercises on the journaling front I’d recommend are

1. Deal with problems and prescriptions. 2. Write down how you could best spend the next six months.”
