Is the OTC BA in Social Care CORU-approved?

Posted on July 20, 2020

That is a very important question to ask at this time. Please read this information fully to gain the complete picture.

The OTC, like all the other colleges and universities offering Social Care degrees today, is seeking approval from CORU for its BA in Social Care course. It is a process that usually takes a year or two, but given the COVID pandemic, this process has been delayed further unfortunately. We expect the process to be completed in 2021/22, in line with the new opening time of the CORU register of Social Care Workers after that in 2023.

The OTC BA in Social Care is a level 7 degree which has been fully validated by QQI, the accrediting body responsible for validating many degree programmes in Ireland across the Institutes of Technology and TU Dublin, for example.

The OTC is now seeking the approval of the BA in Social Care by CORU. The College is confident that it will be awarded the approval in due course because the College has created the BA in Social Care degree based on the strict requirements laid down by CORU, and incorporates all the required learning proficiencies that have been dictated by CORU from the outset. The College has already submitted the documentation outlining the course and is now awaiting a date for the next step in the process, the visit to the College by a panel of experts to review the degree with the OTC team. This step will probably take place in early 2021 though we do not have a date yet. All the other colleges are in the same boat and are going through the same steps right now.

Hopefully this helps to explain the situation regarding CORU and to let you know that the OTC have many students currently studying this course in the knowledge that the College has prepared a social care degree that should be approved within the given time frame. The OTC looks forward to welcoming you on the course too.

Please forward any questions to Conor on [email protected] or call the office on 01-2988544.
