“From my experience, the business and commerce degrees offered at Shannon College of Hotel Management present a perfect balance of practical, business and linguistic modules to ensure a successful future career in the global hospitality industry.

In Year One we are trained in five practical modules: Accommodation Services, Restaurant, Culinary, Life Skills, as well as Front Office and I.T. These are the foundational practical elements to working in hospitality and Shannon College really ensures that students are trained well, in a fun and interesting setting.

The business modules studied throughout a student’s time in Shannon College include Marketing, Accounting, Food & Beverage Studies, Business Skills, Revenue Management and Event Management, to name but a few. These subjects are fundamental in gaining an understanding of the industry and to allow for further progression. These modules are taught in an understandable and interactive manner and we often have exciting guest speakers or class trips to different hospitality businesses.

Each student also studies French, German, Spanish or Intercultural Communications and this will then decide where you will spend your Year Two International Work Placement. Studying a language while working towards a business or commerce degree centred around hospitality really allows one to become more culturally aware while opening your eyes to the world around you.
