Worldskills Ireland returns to the RDS this year from 13th - 15th September

Posted on September 12, 2022

Worldskills Ireland returns this year from 13th - 15th September to the RDS, Simmonscourt to promote skills, apprenticeship careers and opportunities for young people. The event allows young people, parents, teachers and guidance counsellors to navigate the options available following secondary education.  From celebrity chefs to make-up artists, from builders to software developers, find out how they got to where they are now. Listen to career advice from employers and meet face-to-face with career professionals and companies looking to hire apprentices. You can even take part in a skills demonstration yourself!  Not to mention, the WSI National Competition finals which is sure to be a favourite. This unique showcase of over 30 varied skills in a competitive setting from the most ambitious and dedicated apprentices from around the country is a highlight.

Andrew Langford, Lecturer in Food and Beverage Studies at Shannon College of Hotel Management is the Chief Examiner for the WorldSkills Ireland Restaurant Service competition.  Front of house skills are just as important as the quality of the food being served and the skill of a great waiter should not be underestimated. Getting the basics right is the most important skill you can learn.  The competitors will be showing their skills in Fine Dining, Banqueting and Bar over the course of the 3 days. Andrew is also the Chief Expert for WorldSkills Restaurant Service and will be attending the World Final in Lucerne, Switzerland last this year.
