Ulster University and Queen’s University, Belfast are working collaboratively through our subject regional partnerships to prepare in earnest for the selection of students who wish to study Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, and also for the Allied Health Professional programmes at Ulster University, for 2023 entry.
Modern Hire
We been engaging with Modern Hire, the online video selection interview supplier, to share your feedback from last year and to improve the process for applicants.
Selection will commence after the UCAS equal consideration deadline for on time applications, Wednesday 25 January 2023. Exact timings will be communicated to applicants once all on time applications are received and first assessments of suitability to meet academic entry criteria have been conducted.
Supporting Applicants
We want to support you to best prepare your pupils for the selection interview process. We have negotiated with Modern Hire to provide careers teachers and guidance counsellors with the opportunity to access the Modern Hire system as an applicant in a mock interview environment.
This will provide you with insights into the process but will differ from the actual interviews that your pupils will undertake in a few key areas:
- The questions will be different
- Your interview will permit unlimited retakes whereas your pupils will only be permitted one attempt at each question

The mock interview experience will be the same, whether you access it through the UU or the QUB UU site. We hope that this opportunity will help you to explain both the process and the experience to your students who will be engaging in the interview selection process for their chosen subjects in 2023.
In a change to last year, two programmes at Ulster University will not use Modern Hire for September 2023 entry. BSc Hons Dietetics and BSc Hons Paramedic Science will return to LIVE interview. Further information as to whether these will be in person or on campus will be confirmed in due course.
