UCAS Late Application: Still time to Apply

Posted on February 9, 2023

Missed the normal UCAS deadline in January? You can still apply to UK and Northern Ireland universities. Late application is now open!

If you’ve missed the January deadline for UCAS, don’t worry, late application allows you to submit an application right up until 30 June 2023. We answer your questions below.

Why should I apply to UCAS?

Applying universities in the UK and N.Ireland via UCAS will give you more course and university options on exam results day. Furthermore, entry requirements for very popular courses in CAO can be more achievable in UCAS.

When you apply to universities in the UCAS system, you will receive decisions on your course choices before you sit your Leaving Cert / QQI examinations. This gives you certainty as to what you need to achieve in your exams in order to be placed on the course.

Which universities can I still apply to?

You can still apply to all UK universities, except two: University of Oxford and University of Cambridge. These universities had an earlier application in October.

Which courses can I still apply to?

Any course that does not have a guillotine deadline. Check out all the courses still available for application here.

Which courses are no longer available for application?

Courses which are no longer available for application are Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry – these courses also had the earlier October deadline.

In Northern Ireland, some health courses also had strict application deadlines which are no longer available for application:

  • Dietetics
  • Diagnostic Radiography & Imaging
  • Midwifery
  • Nursing (Adult)
  • Nursing (Mental Health)
  • Nursing (Peadatric)
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Paramedic Science
  • Physiotherapy
  • Podiatry
  • Radiotherapy & Oncology
  • Speech & Language Therapy

But I’ve already applied to CAO. Can I also apply to UCAS?

Yes! You can still apply to UCAS. Applying to both will give you lots of options to consider when you receive your exam results this summer. Once you have decided which university/college you want to go to, you can simply withdraw your application if you no longer wish to attend that university.

How do I make a UCAS application?

Making a UCAS application is really simple. Check out Ulster University’s Applying to UCAS Video Guide. UCAS also have fantastic resources on how to write your personal statement.
