Ulster University: Leaving Certificate Results Day

Posted on August 8, 2023

The following arrangements have been made to assist with UCAS Clearing enquiries following the publication of Leaving Certificate results on Friday 25 August 2023.

Our Clearing site provides prospective students and their families with everything they need to know about UCAS Clearing, results day and the support services we will provide during the results period.

When will UU confirm offers?

On Friday 25 August, applicants holding an offer for a place at Ulster University will have their place confirmed via email if they meet the conditions of their offer outlined via their UCAS Hub. Applicants will be advised to “accept their place” via UCAS Hub.

For some courses at Ulster University, applicants may receive early confirmation of their place prior to publication of Leaving Certificate results, particularly where additional places have become available. In this scenario, applicants will receive an email from Ulster University Admissions before results day, advising applicants their place has been confirmed and to “accept their place” via UCAS Hub.

Applicants who do not meet the conditions of their offer, may still be accepted on their chosen course depending on availability, or alternatively could be declined from their Firm or Insurance choices, where they will be entered into Clearing.

Firm & Insurance Offers Explained

Offer holders will be in receipt of a Firm and/or an Insurance offer, depending on how many courses they originally applied to.

Their Firm offer is the applicant’s first preference course, and will be where they’ll study if they have met the conditions of their offer (i.e met the grades/points). Their Insurance offer is their second preference (backup) course, and will be where they’ll study if they don’t meet the conditions of their Firm choice but do meet the conditions of their Insurance choice.

Applicants may decline their Firm offer and accept their Insurance offer if they have since changed their mind about which course offer they wish to choose. If a student is declined from both choices, they will be entered into Clearing, where they can apply for courses with remaining places.

How long can I wait before I respond to my offer? Ulster University strongly encourages offer holders to accept their offers as soon as

So, What’s Clearing?

Similar to CAO’s Available Places, UCAS Clearing is the final opportunity for students to secure a place on a university course before the academic term begins in late September. Simply put, it is where courses still have vacancy and are accepting.
