Students on the 3-year BA (Hons) Event Management degree at MTU now have the opportunity to complete a semester long student exchange at Algonquin College University, Canada, following the signing of a novel memorandum between both universities in 2023.
Located in Ottawa, Algonquin College launched a Bachelor of Event, Sport, and Entertainment Management (Honours) degree in 2023, currently the only Canadian business degree specialising in event management. Students from each degree now have the option to complete a full semester of study at the partner college, in the second half of Year 2 of their respective degrees. Credits gained on the exchange can be fully added to their undergraduate degree upon return from their exchange.
The partnership begins in January 2025, with MTU students travelling to Ottawa to study and live in Canada and Algonquin students joining the BA Event Management degree at MTU Kerry campus in Tralee. Students on both degrees have already participated in joint online workshops and industry guest speaker lectures over the past 12 months, in anticipation of the launch of the exchange.
Feargus Dunne, Lecturer in Event Management at MTU commented, “This exciting new exchange allows our event management students at MTU to experience studying in the heart of Ottawa, the beautiful capital city of Canada, with the additional option to stay on for the summer on a working visa. We likewise look forward to welcoming Canadian students to experience studying in County Kerry, and giving them a deep insight into the vibrant event management sector in Ireland.”
