Academic and Professional Programmes at NMCI

NMCI offers a wide range of academic and professional programmes that cater for merchant shipping industry, maritime operations, supply chain, customs and logistics. The comprehensive portfolio of programmes includes both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes and offers a structured progression paths for exciting careers in the above sectors.

School leavers can begin their careers in the maritime industry with a Level 7 undergraduate degrees in Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science, Bachelor of Engineering in Marine Engineering, and Bachelor of Engineering in Marine Electrotechnology. On completion of these programmes NMCI graduates get a unique dual qualification consisting of both an academic degree from MTU and an internationally recognised Certificate of Competency from the Department of Transport in Ireland. NMCI Professional courses are aimed at experienced seafarers who wish to gain internationally recognised qualifications and continue professional development in the areas of navigation and marine engineering. BSc Honours in Nautical Science offers a combination of Level 8 degree and a professional qualification of Chief Mate/Master. Second and Chief Engineer Officer programmes offer career progression and continuous professional development for marine engineers. This year NMCI added a new programme Officer of the Watch and Master on Ships of less than 500GT for upskilling fishermen to the portfolio of professional courses. NMCI also offers part-time programmes for professionals looking to progress in or switch to the areas of supply chain management, customs and logistics, and maritime operations including offshore energy operations management. The programmes are delivered mostly online to cater for those in full-time employment and offer progression from Level 7 Bachelor’s degree to Level  8 and Level 9 Post-graduate diploma and Master’s degree in the areas of Supply Chain and Maritime operations.
