The GA872 Ordinary Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Environment at ATU Mayo Campus is a qualification that provides graduates with vital skills for the job market in the cultural, environmental and tourism sectors. It provides students with a detailed knowledge of our culture (including history, archaeology, folklore and literature) and environment (including geology, ecology and the natural environment). It provides students with knowledge and skills required to work in tourism enterprises. The cultural industries and the green economy are key growth sectors in Ireland and internationally.
In this three year course students will learn in many different ways in the classroom, in customised lab and through field-trips. Students also have the option of studying abroad for a semester or a full academic year and they will have the opportunity to complete work experience as part of their studies, providing valuable practical experience and industry contacts.
This programme will also prepare you to work in museums and visitor centres, community development programmes, on archaeological sites, on environmental conservation projects and in the education sector.

Entry Requirements:
The Leaving Cert minimum entry requirements for 2021 was 160 points. Students are also required to have O6/H7 in 5 subjects, F2/O6/H7 in Irish or O6/H7 in English and F2/O6/H7 in Mathematics.
This course will accept Any QQI Level 5 or 6 Major Award as an entry requirement.

What You Will Study:
The GA872 Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Environment provides a broadly based knowledge of natural and human heritage through modules of study on archaeology, folklore, genealogy, geography, geology, history, literature, music and natural history. The focus is on the practical applications of this knowledge, and the course includes IT, enterprise development and communications.

Level 7 graduates may progress to the Level 8 BA (Hons) in History & Geography (add-on) at ATU Mayo. Level 6 & 7 graduate may also progress to related programmes in ATU Galway/Mayo or other institutes.
