Two DkIT student film projects were announced as winners at the Republic of Ireland Royal Television Society Awards held in RTÉ on March 3.
The RTS Student Television Awards recognise the best audiovisual work created by students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It is the oldest television society in the world. It currently has thirteen regional and national centres in the UK, as well as a branch in the Republic of Ireland. 'Ghost Estate' won Best in ‘Comedy and Entertainment’ and The Wildgoose Lodge Massacre won Best Factual. DkIT had a number of other nominations in other categories. The judging panel included Bill Malone, Head of Content Virgin Media Television, Alan Esslemont, TG4 Director General and Dee Forbes, RTÉ Director General. Programme Director, Lorcan Dunne, said,
"I am thrilled for the students, lecturers and supervisors. It's fantastic to get this recognition by industry leaders. Awards such as this one gives us confidence in the work we are producing and hopefully leads to necessary investment in our course, which is essential for its continued success."
The winners from the Republic of Ireland Awards will go forward for judging in the Royal Television Society Finals in London in June.
