DkIT Engineer’s Week – XX Factor

Posted on April 15, 2020

The Annual Engineer’s Week 2020 ran recently at DKIT and the Engineering Department got involved by hosting an Engineering and Science show for primary schools.  Over 500 students from 10 different primary schools attended in the TK Whitaker Theatre. The show called the XX-Factor introduced the students to six amazing scientists and engineers. The students discovered the ground-breaking work they did and meet the modern-day scientists they inspired along the way.

From sparks, light and gravity, to musical moments, smoke rings and crazy paper chains, the show gave the budding engineers and scientists a glimpse of the life changing impacts that a career in engineering can have.

The show was presented by Science Made Simple, a science education company based in Cardiff University who specialize in connecting real-life researchers with future scientists and engineers through interactive demonstrations and engaging and fun science presentations.

Engineer’s Week is run every year by Engineer’s Ireland and seeks to promote Engineering and the importance of the profession to children in Ireland. The School of Engineering at DKIT are passionate about engaging young people from the North Leinster, South Ulster region and every year use Engineer’s Week to show that a career in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) is an exciting and rewarding job.
