DkIT Student Continues Her Winning Streak at Worldskills Ireland Live 2022

Posted on September 20, 2022

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) are delighted to report that their student Cloe Walsh took 2nd place at the prestigious World Skills Ireland Live Cookery Competition last week.

Worldskills Ireland Live took place from the 13th to 15th September in the RDS in Dublin. This event showcased 32 National finals from Woodwork to Welding, Cabinet making to Cookery. The event brought the best young talent together from all around the country to compete in front of over 20,000 second level students over 3 days of intense competition.

The Cookery Competition collectively brought some of the country’s finest young chefs under the watchful eye of Chief Examiner, Alan Mc Cabe (DkIT). The 6 finalists represented TUS Limerick, Tipperary ETB, TU Dublin, Southeast TU, ATU Galway and DkIT. TUS Limerick’s Jack Rice won and was awarded the Department of Education’s Silver medal at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday evening.

The Winner Jack Rice was pushed all the way to the winning line by DkIT’s Cloe Walsh who finished a close second over the 16 hours of competition. This was Cloe’s first time entering this prestigious competition and with the support of her Tutor Alan Mc Cabe and her Head Chef in Castle Leslie Aaron Duffy she competed to a very high standard and produced some fantastic cooking. Cloe is no stranger to culinary competitions having finished 2nd earlier in the year in the Knorr Young Chef of the Year. A first-place finish is not far away, and her next focus will be on competing at Chef Ireland next February. In the meantime, its back to the books as Cloe started back into 3rd year of her BA in Culinary Arts at DKIT this week.

If you fancy being one of DKIT’s future culinary stars, check out the course details here, course code DK753 or contact Alan Mc Cabe at [email protected].
