DkIT’s Architectural Technology Courses Receive Global Accreditation

Posted on February 2, 2024

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) are thrilled to announce that both their BSc (Hons) and BSc in Architectural Technology courses have recently received a CIAT accreditation.

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is a dynamic, forward-thinking and inclusive global membership qualifying body for Architectural Technology.

This accreditation means that Graduates from a CIAT Approved programme will be eligible to apply for Associate membership (ACIAT), with a view to progression to becoming a professionally qualified Architectural Technician (TCIAT) and possible progression to becoming a Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT). Graduates will be allowed certain exemptions within the membership progression process, having already demonstrated their competence in these areas within the qualification.

Graduates from the BSc (Hons) and BSc in Architectural Technology courses in DkIT are extremely sought after and much in demand within the construction industry. These DkIT courses are delivered in the School of Engineering which also recently won a prestigious global Athena Swan Accreditation for its dedication and commitment to equality within its School.

Dr Breda Brennan, Head of School of Engineering, DkIT said “We are delighted to receive this accreditation from CIAT for our Architectural Technology programmes. This follows accreditation of our Construction Management programmes by CIOB last year and our Building Surveying programmes are already accredited by the SCSI. This means that all of the Built Environment programmes here in DkIT are professionally accredited and meet the highest standards required for careers in the construction Industry. This is a major win for our students and graduates, and I commend all the staff in the Department of the Built Environment for their hard work and dedication to their students’ futures”.

Architectural Technology is the application of science and engineering knowledge to the design of buildings. This course enables graduates to work together with architects in multidisciplinary teams to achieve efficient and effective technical design solutions which are robust, durable and sustainable. Architectural Technologists are technical designers, skilled in the application and integration of construction technologies in the building design process. This technical design programme integrates theory with practical application to equip students with real life problem solving and communication skills and a broad understanding of construction technology. Students will also gain knowledge in detailing, building regulations, health and safety legislation and the theory and integration of environmental and sustainable design
