Higher Education Course of the Week: MT948 – Hospitality Management at MTU Cork

MT948 – Hospitality Management at MTU Cork is a brand new full time 4 year Bachelor’s programme that is designed to give students the learn practical hospitality management skills and theoretical knowledge in classrooms which they put to use during their mandatory work placements in year 1 and year 2 and their management internship in year 3.

Students will be taught through a mixture of tutorials, formal lectures, individual and team project work, and lectures from guest speakers.

Learners will become familiar with the theory and practice of food and beverage operations, which involves the process of buying raw ingredients, keeping a strict inventory of food stock, the process of food and beverage preparation. Students will learn about the management of rooms, from the servicing of hotel rooms, to front office operations and managing security services.

Upon completion of the course students will have developed a strong understanding of the structures within different types of hospitality businesses such as hotels, restaurants and bars. Another topic of study will be the role of sustainability in Hospitality.

Entry Requirements:

As this is a new course, the points history is not available, this information will be updated from September 2023. Minimum subjects required are the following: a minimum of H5 in two subjects and 06/H7 in four other subjects. These six subjects must include Maths and either English or Irish grade O6/H7.


Progression into this course via QQI / FET Links:

Information is not yet available on whether this course will accept a Level 5 or 6 QQI Major Award as an entry requirement.

 

Career Progression:

Graduates of this course will be eligible for employment in food and beverage management, rooms division management, sales, marketing, human resources and training or even entrepreneurship.
