Course Summary
Course Category: Disability Training Provision
The Certificate in Arts, Science and Inclusive Applied Practice is a two year programme for students with intellectual disabilities. This course has been accredited at Level 5 by the University Council of Trinity College Dublin. This means that students will receive a formal Level 5 award when they graduate.
The curriculum offers students a high academic standard of learning. The course objective is to realise the full potential of the students with intellectual disabilities. It will help to develop a broad range of skills across a comprehensive curriculum, including preparing graduates to work in diverse employment settings. This course is rooted in evidence-based research and aims to provide students with the independent living skills needed to become full participants in Irish society.
The Inclusive National Higher Education Forum is a national interest group comprised of representatives of higher education providers who offer programmes of inclusive education to learners with intellectual disabilities in Ireland.

What will you study?

Applied Science, Technology and Maths
Students will learn about science, maths and health. There will be a focus on how they can use this knowledge outside college.
Advocacy, Rights and Culture
Students will learn about human rights and learn the skills needed to advocate for their rights and the rights of others.
Advanced Learning Theories and Self-Development
Students will learn about different learning skills and how they can use these in College. They will also have occupational therapy groups and individual meetings.
Business and Marketing
Students will learn about marketing strategies and how to create a business plan. They will also complete a work placement.
Fine Arts and Languages
Students will learn about languages, art and poetry and will develop skills to express themselves.
Applied Research Theories and Practice
Students will learn about research methods and will carry out their own research project.

Investigative
The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. These types prefer mentally stimulating environments and often pay close attention to developments in their chosen field.
Administrative
Administrative people are interested in work that offers security and a sense of being part of a larger process. They may be at their most productive under supervisors who give clear guidelines and while performing routine tasks in a methodical and reliable way.
They tend to enjoy clerical and most forms of office work, where they perform essential administrative duties. They often form the backbone of large and small organisations alike. They may enjoy being in charge of office filing systems, and using computers and other office equipment to keep things running smoothly. They usually like routine work hours and prefer comfortable indoor workplaces.
Linguistic
The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Most Linguistic types will enjoy the opportunity to teach or instruct people in a topic they are interested in.
