The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Career Progression

On successful completion of the course, job opportunities for graduates include: Social Care Worker, Community Project Worker, Family Support Worker. Graduate employment opportunities are with the HSE, TUSLA, youth and community services, section 38 public agencies, as well as section 39 voluntary agencies (as per the Health Act 2004).


Graduates can progress onto a one year, add-on Level 8 Honours degree at TUS. Graduates on similar programmes in this area have also gone on to postgraduate studies in Ireland, UK, Australia in areas including: speech and language therapy, equality studies, legal studies, child and family community studies, applied behaviour analysis, Montessori and adult and community education.
