Course Summary
With design skills classes, masterclasses from industry professionals, workshops and performances in our Black Box Theatre, this programme allows students to pursue careers as a designer in film, television or theatre. This programme prepares graduates for work in the rapidly expanding stage and screen industries. Students develop skills in spatial awareness, visual research, text and character analysis, model-making, costume design, technical drawing and performance design.

Creative people are drawn to careers and activities that enable them to take responsibility for the design, layout or sensory impact of something (visual, auditory etc). They may be atrracted to the traditional artistic pursuits such as painting, sculpture, singing, or music. Or they may show more interest in design activities, such as architecture, animation, or craft areas, such as pottery and ceramics.
Creative people use their personal understanding of people and the world they live in to guide their work. Creative people like to work in unstructured workplaces, enjoy taking risks and prefer a minimum of routine.
Career Progression
There is a high demand for qualified practitioners in the theatre, film and TV industries. Graduates will be qualified to work either as a designer for theatre, film and TV, or alternatively in a range of areas across the performing arts and creative industries in Ireland and abroad.
Graduates may progress to the final year of our Level 8 BA (Hons) in Performing Arts.
